Whenever I finish a lecture there is always someone who wants to ask me a "quick question". If I'm in a contrarian mood I'll smile and say, "I also answer slow questions!" Regardless, the questions remain mostly the same. Last week I lectured to a group of relative fitness newbies who are training to participate in their first race - a half marathon. Here are a few of the questions I received followed by my answers; Q. What's the best exercise? The best aerobic exercise is the one you'll do every day. Q. What's the best time to exercise? The best time to exercise is when you will do it. Q. How can I lose weight here? (followed by pointing to some spot on their body--for men, their "love handles" for women, any number of "spots"). I steal Charles Kuntzelman's great line, "If spot reducing worked, people who chew gum would have skinny faces. " Q. What's the best diet? The best diet is one that is:
Q. (From older folks:) What's the best exercise for me? (see above) followed by the following, People don't stop exercising because they grow old, they grow old because they stop exercising.
